International Activities

The ADA is your window to the global dental community. The ADA recognizes that oral health is the shared concern of dentists everywhere, beyond the confines of national boundaries. In recognition of the growing global dental community, the ADA Center for International Development and Affairs (CIDA) was established in 2002. CIDA is the ADA’s international liaison in the worldwide exchange of knowledge and experience in oral health matters, improving the quality of health care worldwide, and linking dental professionals to events, organizations, professional activities and volunteer opportunities around the world.

Certificate of Recognition for Volunteer Service in a Foreign Country

Have you or someone you know participated in International volunteer activities in the last 24 months?? The ADA believes that the personal effort and self sacrifice of Association members who serve as volunteers in lesser developed countries to improve the health of their people merits professional and public appreciation and recognition. In 1974 the ADA established a certificate program whereby individuals who meet the criteria established are eligible to receive a Certificate of Recognition. Component and constituent societies are invited to nominate their members (by March 31) who have served as volunteers during the preceding year. For more information click here.

SURVEYS, SYMPOSIUM TARGET ORAL HEALTH LITERACY

Many dental patients do not fully comprehend their oral health status and the instructions provided to them by their dental care providers. Building on the work it accomplished toward improving oral health literacy in 2006 and 2007, the ADA will actively seek more information on oral health literacy issues when it surveys dentists, dental team members and dental schools in 2008 to help identify the problems associated with oral health literacy.
